Objective

Airborne Veterinary Aid - Providing essential veterinary services and Veterinary First Aid Kits to communities and primary producers affected by the 2025 flooding in Queensland, South Australia, and New South Wales.

These services have been and will be delivered via aircraft to ensure timely and efficient support in flood-impacted regions, where traditional access routes have been disrupted or made impassable due to unprecedented flooding.

TO DATE 3,094 nautical miles (5,731 kilometres) have been flown by aircraft for Project Black Cockatoo

Livestock that have survived the initial floods now how to survive the recovery

SUPPORT

Communities have survived the initial flooding, primary producers are just getting back to their properties - the recovery begins.

The assessment of sick, hurt, and lost stock has just begun with many areas still inaccessible and will be for several weeks. Project Black Cockatoo provides improved access to Veterinary Services for communities and primary producers affected by the floods.

This delivers comprehensive animal welfare support and further collaboration for maximum impact.

Mental health

As the initial flood response assets withdraw, Project Black Cockatoo offers timely assistance. Our veterinary response has provided multiple in-person interactions for isolated producers and communities. Project Black Cockatoo has helped with animal and livestock disease and injuries but also helped their owners' mental anguish during the recovery process.

This horse got swept away in flood waters and was found 10 kilometres away. It sustained substantial injuries and could only be treated daily via helicopter before flood waters dropped, and it could be brought to the homestead for a veterinary assessment. It's closest Vet is either 1,100kms in Adelaide, 500kms to Charleville, or 650kms to Longreach
